What are the pros and cons of violent television programs?

I'm writing a paper about violence on television and any ideas on how to approach the topic or any opinions about the topic would be most appreciated.

Well, technically there isn't substantial "pros" to watching violent television programs. However, for writing purposes, you can say some of the pros would be:

-humans arent oblivious to human injustices and suffering, therefore watching violent programs reminds humans of the atrocities and shows them what could happen if repeated.

-a con to watching violent programs numbs the viewers to death, violence and sexual immorality. Therefore, they show less compassion to their fellow man due to this absence of pity.

Try the angle of how adolescence are affected by violent programs or perhaps how violent programs may play a indirect role in America accepting war and battle to decide their differences with other nations.

pro- it shows what violence can do and how it affects peoples lives so people can learn from it

con- it influences people especially younger people.

I can't think of a pro. There really aren't any cons either. The whole thing that violent tv causes violent kids is by and large a farce. The only actual evidence that kids mimic tv is when the violence is something immitatable (like punching or kicking instead of blowing up buildings) and then the only types of children that mimic it are some toddlers immediately after viewing the material.

i guess the only pro would be that it shows how the world really is and how people are a con would be all the influences on young people giving them ideas they think it's cool or something

There are no pros that I'm aware of. It all depends on the maturity of the viewer.

The cons are that violence on television can lead to real life violence in children. ex. pro wrestler triple H likes to use a sledgehammer to his opponents in the face. There have been 3 incidences of a child doing the same to another child and that child needed facial reconstructive surgery.
