Is it possible to use a television as a computer monitor?

My friend told me her ex boyfriend had what appeared to be a flat screen television to of which he had his computer hooked up to and used as a regular monitor. Is this possible?

I have a Mac Mini hooked up to my 52" Sony Bravia LCD HDTV using a DVI-to-HDMI cable. It's a full 1080p high-definition TV set, and its resolution is 1980x1080. It works flawlessly.

So yes, it's possible to use a TV as a monitor. Preferably an LCD HDTV with HDMI inputs, because those are just like really big LCD flat-panel monitors.

I wouldn't use an old cathode-ray-tube TV as a monitor, because their resolutions and refresh rates are usually too low, designed for NTSC 480i standard definition signals.

Plasma TVs are not ideal, because if you display a still image for a length of time, the image might get burnt into the screen.

And DLP TVs just don't look as nice as LCDs.

Hope this helps.

Yes but you may need a signal converter to convert from VGA to RCA or S-Video or component or HDMI if you have Hi-Def. Some Hi Definition TV's have direct connections for VGA but you would have to look at your manual.

Yes, it is very possible. For directions, look here-

Yes, but televisions have lower resolutions than monitors, so it won't look as good.
