What makes a murder trial big enough to make national television?

Does anyone know what makes a murder trial "big" enough to be aired nationwide and not just locally? For example: I live in Washington, but starting in June there is a murder trial held in West Virginia that I would think is pretty big. It's two Army Deserters that killed a Minister. Would that be big enough to make television? And if so, nationwide, or would it just be local WV television? Thanks...

Usually, if a high-profile citizen or a high-profile celebrity is involved in a murder case, not only does it make national headlines, it gets tv coverage as well.
