What would the cost of a television in the late 1950's be the equivalent of today?

My grandmother and her daughter rented a television in the 1950's,they couldn't afford to buy one.

accounting for inflation, a 1950's TV would have to cost $1,500 to $2,000

also, please do think about this:

This instrument can inform, teach and even enlighten, but only to the extent that people choose to use it to those ends, otherwise all you have is lights and wires in a box. - Edward R. Murrow - 1959

OFF YOUR TV!
