How do I become a reporter for a tv news station? Not the newspaper but on television?

I want to become a news reporter in NYC AND I plan on studying there...How do I become reporter for the news on television not in the newspaper? Thanks.

Since you already said you want to go to college in NYC, you've taken care of one step - that'll make it easier for you to get a foot in the door.

If the college/university you choose to go to has a TV station or radio station where you can get some experience, that's another step - if not, write for the campus paper. Being a great writer won't hurt you; it'll give you even more of a foundation.

When you can, get an internship at one of the NYC stations. That might not be possible until your junior year, though - so try to get an internship during the school year, as well as one over the summer, if at all possible. You might be pulling file footage or running tapes or all sorts of odd jobs at the station, but you'll be in there and part of it.

After that, keep pushing to try to get in on the station's staff - but as long as you've made enough contacts and have a good reputation, you'll have done what you needed to do at school.

At the same time, your reporting career may have to start at a smaller market than NYC - there's a chance you could leap into reporting in New York right out of school, but don't completely count on it. The important thing is that if you have to go somewhere else to start, that you keep in contact with the people who you've established relationships with back in NYC - send them tapes, keep them updated on your accomplishments, and you could find yourself back in New York in short order.

if you are very attractive, you should not have a problem!

same as anything apply ,keep neat act ready to do feild work, but also keep some morals as to what you report and don't report.

Preferably a degree in journalism would be helpful. You might be able to 'get in' by working in newscripts, maybe even the crew. This way you develop connections inside the business, and will immediately hear of any openings you can apply for. To see what I mean, try reading these:
