How do I get my HDTVready television to work?

How do I get my HDTVready television to switch things over from SD to HD, so I can play my DVD's and video games with a crisp picture. Right now, all I have is a component cable from my dvd player to my tv, but when the movie plays, everything is blue. And when I play video games, everything from the rocks to the trees is shiny like metal. What do I do to get that clear HD picture if my tv is only HDready?

The prior poster is correct-you can't get a HD picture from an SD source. I don't know what the resolution of your game player is, but be aware that component cable is capable of HD. But, this doesn't mean the your TV playing SD should look like crap! You should be getting a picture comparable to an SDTV. Either you don't have the settings correct or you've got a problem TV. If this is a new set, go back to the store and have then demo the same model with an SD signal to see if yours is broken or just a bad design.

Unless your dvd unit is upconverting or pure HD, you will not be experiencing dvd's in HD 1080. Same is true for your videogames unless it is an HD system. As fr antenna/cable/satellite TV viewing, you will need the cable provider's HD service (special box) or a SD>HD converter for over the air (until 2009 when the whole USA converts to strictly HD broadcasting). As for the shiny metal image effect, try turning your sharpness control all the way OFF ( on some menus this appears to be in the maximum position)

Blue tends to be the result of having the player on the wrong setting for number of lines 480, 720, or 1080

Or it is the result of being in the wrong scan mode interlaced or progressive

So see if you need to change one of those settings to restore the picture
