One of the many, I'm afraid.
It is laughably easy to sit in front of the tube, day after day, for hours on end and live vicariously through the characters on the screen. Children do it...they emulate what they see, their play is filled with super heroes and such. Women do it, knowing their favorite soap characters most intimate details as well as they know the contents of their own closets, and more, they debate and squabble over the happenings on these shows. Reality/game shows, where the success of a contestant/candidate is dependent upon a viewer forming a bond with and voting for one above another, regardless of the persons merit.
Media, in all its forms, is addictive...how unfortunate it is that we, and yes I am including myself, must find television, etc, as an escape from ourselves.
Television can be quite a useful educational tool and is harmless to our health unlike drugs. Like everything in society anything can be used properly or incorrectly. It just depends on the person using the device. Television can be used by some as an informative device and by others as an excuse to avoid leaving the house. Just because some people have used it incorrectly does not mean the device is bad. It shows that many people are greatly flawed mentally in our modern society.
Probably..... but I have found that everyone that tells me they "don't watch tv" are typically humorless, boring and unimaginative. That seems rather counter intuitive, but their is something to be said for the teaching of comedic timing through watching geniuses perform.
I also found that everyone that says "I don't even own a tv" not only lacks the qualities above, but they are confident that they have them. Needless to say that is a loathsome combination.
Obviously this is not a rule.... but it seems pretty accurate for most everyone I have ever met/known who has this aversion to television. Now there are many how watch too much tv and actively limit their tv intake.... sometimes cutting it out altogether.... these people seem to be okay blokes.
I suppose it is a little like the difference between someone who has never had a drink.... and someone who intentionally tries not to drink too much because they know they can go overboard. The former is just odd and missing a big part of the human experience, while the latter is making an intelligent choice using his human experience as a learning tool.
It may be a good drug or a bad one. It really lies on the audience how they take telivision as a company. Too much stay is bad expecially for children because it is a passive approach. One becomes more obese by staying for a longer period of time watching and eating junk foods at the same time. Studies of the children are affected.
So, parents have great roles in dealing with their children on the manner of usage of telivision sets. One could set time for watching as a leisure and a time for relaxing. Too much of everything really is a bad thing.
We should take responsibilites therefore by setting good examples. Telivision on the other brings fast information and knowledge. It is very effective as a teaching tool to children as well. Nowadays, cartoons had injected learnings for pre-schoolers like colors, shapes, numbers, letters and the like.
I believe it is more of an advantage to the public.
Thanks for asking. Have a great day!
We know many drugs can cause harm to our mind and body but exactly what harms television could cause has not yet been fully looked into. In general, we can see that television is the most popular household device that we ever had, and that we have learnt not to live without. It is just so good and it is so easy and so grand in its ability. This is most obvious for us to notice that television has replaced our need for up close and personal interactions with real people with people who we can relate with more idealistically or dramatically and less realistically.
Then soon as we press the on button television becomes psychedelically operative in the mind. We seldom notice the presence of some camera, then it not merely to control the focus our eyes but of our entire mind. We see what we are desired to see, and often are made to think what we are made to think. There is nothing on the television that is not manipulatively produced, and professionally presented, for some purpose or the other, that we buy unknowingly buy and pay the cost of our watching pleasure.
I personally know that that television alters and shapes anew our way of imagining things. The powerful computers graphics that are incorporated into every production from news to documentaries and to fantasy worlds of cartoons influence the mind powerfully and natural peaceful ways of imagining things is overthrown. There is calmness, serenity and sense of fulfilment in the mind that we could experience through visualisation and meditative practices, but an imagination altered by television intrusion could become restless and hungry for fun and excitement all the time.
Is drug all what you getting with obsession.
The computer internet can be a drug if you use so much time.
Drug is definitly all what you repeat again and again for placeur or hobby.
My drugs is, internet, and smoking.
A thing is habito another is drug, depend the time and the use what you do.
No, it's actually the drug of 'The World'.
It's a mass medium used to indoctrinate and brainwash.
It's a mass hypnotising tool by sending a rhytmic beat between 40-65 per minute, only registered by the brains in our subconcious and it makes all of us 'numb' and non-imaginative and non-assertive.
The whole thing is to prepare the mass for the 'NEW WORLD ORDER' where a few of us will be in charge and all the other millions of people will be their slaves.
This is NOT A JOKE!!
I don't watch TV!
Good song, yes it that & more.
Lyrics to "Slime" by Frank Zappa.
I am gross and perverted
Im obsessed n deranged
I have existed for years
But very little had changed
I am the tool of the government
And industry too
For I am destined to rule
And regulate you
I may be vile and pernicious
But you cant look away
I make you think Im delicious
With the stuff that I say
I am the best you can get
Have you guessed me yet?
I am the slime oozin out
From your tv set
You will obey me while I lead you
And eat the garbage that I feed you
Until the day that we dont need you
Dont got for help...no one will heed you
Your mind is totally controlled
It has been stuffed into my mold
And you will do as you are told
Until the rights to you are sold

More like a delivery system for other drugs: sex, aggression, money, religion, fantasy, etc. People keep tuning in to get more of those things. If television showed educational programming with no commercials all day long (ala PBS), I don't think you'd have people watching for hours.
not for everyone as radio again is becoming more popular, however I believe the majority of people need television for their entertainment and for many of the elderly it is their sole companion.
Yes.
Television is the pain reliever and alcohol is the inducer.
Interesting
Thanks for asking
I only watch about 8 hrs a week, so don't think so but if it is / was then the Internet is fast taking over as the new opiate of the masses.
