Does USA require to have a television license? Where can I find prices and purchase info?

Are they frequently tracking the people who do not have the license? Will they stop and check your portable television?

No, the basic TV channels are free.

We do pay for cable and special pay TV (like HBO, Showtime, etc.). But if we don't pay the bill, the service is discontinued.

WTF?? Where are you from? why would you need a license to have a tv. and who would be checking your tv? for what? i want to know where you're from now! this is a crazy question! click on add details! and tell us, we're curious.

For those of you who think its a joke requiring aTV licence try living in Ireland.

To answer your question Smorgasbo I think Tonalc1 gave you a good answer.

No they will not stop and check your portable TV, unless you are going through an airport of course.

you are in luck, I am selling American television licenses half off. Just 20$ and you can own any T.V. you want....even palsma and LCD

We do NOT have television licenses in the USA.

um, no licence to have a tv lol

No, no licences in the US but you will get an overdose of commercials...to give you an idea the average 30 minute program is actually 22 minutes. Yup, 8 minutes of adverts!

You will probably need to get a TV antenna ("rabbit ears") if you don't get cable. You can probably get this at any electronic store. With this you will get the basic channels (ABC, NBC, Fox, CBS, PBS, etc). If you want other channels you will have to pay for cable and then won't need an antenna, just a cable for the wall. (Most places are cable ready).

Cable TV is privately run and prices and channels available will depend on the area you live in.

Thank you stoperat for that information! I had no idea!!

How fortunate we are in North America!!
