How do I make a video of me playing the 360 without pointing a camera at the television?

I want to make a montage of me playing a couple video games and post it on youtube, but I don't want to point the camera at the television because it just looks horrible that way. I've heard of some video capture programs, but I still don't quite understand enough for me to go invest in one.
