I think it's a huge waste of time, and should at the very least be regulated as to content in the name of social responsibility. Under no circumstance should children be exposed to the 'entertainment' that is put out there. What do you think?
I think the function of television in society today is to make us not have an original thought of our own. It drowns out how we real feel and makes us believe we are never good enough and wants us to believe we need more things. Television wants you believe there is a pill for every aliment.
WELL SO IS SITTING ON YOUR BLOODY COMPUTER!!!!! http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=1006042522001&kid=NbUvWza7UDKph2PgnZLO&s=comm&date=2006-04-30+15%3A37%3A57&.crumb=
It's best suited for violent video games in which you can beat a cop with his own night stick.
It's really cool too when you can mow people down on the sidewalk in a stolen corvette.
Also, you can use your TV to put your drink on; but use a coaster so you don't leave a ring.
I've heard of people having sex on their TV too, haven't tried it yet myself.
Elvis put a bullet in his... I bet that was fun.
to make mush of your mind
to drain ur brain. lol
to get people to buy stuff they do not need, and to make everyone feel like a loser because they are not famous and rich
Nowadays, it's function is merely to get the more rating points they can so that they could sell TV airing time at very high rates to advertisers.
TO Entertain the people and to inform them of news.
The only regulation Television needs is for more people to stop watching shows they don't like, and maybe to keep better track of what their own kids are watching. I don't want the goverment making those decisions for me.
Unfortunately for our society, there are too many parents in the world that use the television as a babysitter.
Mindless entertainment - requires little or no effort.
I think you're wrong! The Television is one of the world's most popular invention! It was designed to relay messages to people faster with less work and time! It's major function is to provide communication with current events around the world! and if you want to consider "entertainment" as a current event, then it's major function is fulfilling its use intended. WHy are you complaining? you act like you've never watched TV before?
Well here in South Africa they have full day educational programs on TV for children less fortunate and unable to go to school. Secondly, I think news is pretty important and I like to know what is going on in the world.
I agree that it should be carefully regulated. The purpose of the television used to be entertainment. I think that television's purpose has evolved to advertisement/marketing. They broadcast so many commercials that at this point there is really no entertainment value. Everyone watches television and zones out the fact that they are being force fed products.
dont know dont think its good but i do enjoy watching it though
I think it serves as a distraction from the harsh reality of life for many. However, I choose to watch as little TV as possible. Therefore, I feel my life is much better. I have more time to be creative and enjoy little things, like sunshine and bicycle rides.
To function as the preferred opiate of the masses
i agree but i stil watch baseball
The function of television in society is to provide information and entertainment to the masses at a reasonable price. Television is a medium that is fraught with relative free expression. It contains as many "good" programs as there are "bad". It depends on your personal preference. Television is theoretically free if you use an antennae and can provide a deeper understanding of the impact of world events than a newspaper, magazine, or radio could hope to do. Moving images capture our imaginations and strike home in ways that mere words will never do. The fact that television is subsidized by commercials, in my opinion, is a good thing. It allows the poor to be as in touch with the world as the rich. I do not think regulation is the key. I do think responsible parents that pay attention to what THEY allow their children to watch is. Don't regulate freedom of speech even more. Take the parents to task for being irresponsible if their children watch something inappropriate. Many televisions now have the V-chip and most cable and satellite providers offer ways to block objectionable content by rating. I use this method. My children can watch G rated fairytales on HBO but it requires a code to watch something R rated. Explore the options before advocating regulation.
