What is wrong with this television and should I purchase it?

A friend of mine is selling his 52" projection screen television for a very low price, it just needs to be fixed. The TV shuts itself off sporadically and without notice. What is the problem and is it an expensive repair? Would I be better off buying new?

If the TV is one of the older tube-rear-projection it sounds like a bad power-supply. Call around and ask how much that costs to fix - in house- since you don't want to lug that beast around.

I personally would just buy a new one or a used one with no obvious problems.

DONT BUY IT........your buying into a lot of expense.

With out a model # and the manufacturers name this is a hard question to answer.

Better to buy a new one, Then you get a warrentee and the prices for projections are in the sub $1k range now. 32" LCD flat panels are now in the sub $1k range now too.
