How can I hook up my laptop to my television using s video cable?

I have a laptop with a 7pin s-video output and a tv with a 4 pin s-video input. I have bought a standard 4m s-video cable from my local store to connect the two. I have connected the cables and my laptop seems to recognize the tv, as when Fn+F8 is pressed, there is an option to switch to TV mode or LCD mode, or both, whereas there was only one option before.

However, on my Samsung rear-projection television, I can't find the channel that the laptop is at. Even when I switched to TV only output, there is no channel that recognises the laptop.

How can I get my Samsung rear projection to recognise my laptop and what channel will it be on? It is not on the AV "blue" screen channels as I have checked.

Help please as I really need this function.

Thanks

On your TV, you're looking for a setting like, video 1 or video 2; or AV1 or AV2 Etc.-check the marking next to the S connector input on your TV. By the way, the S cable only carries the video. You still have to bring over the audio. Your TV probably has red and white RCA sockets. Your computer probably has a small stereo connetor. You can buy a stereo to RCA adapter and a standard red/white audio cable to do the hook-up. Radio Shack should have what you need.

i think you need a DVI or PC out let on your tv i know plasmas

have them look at the extras on your Manuel

good luck
