How can I transmit a movie playing on my laptop to my television?

I am interested in watching movies on my television without having to burn the movie to a dvd. Instead I am mounting an ISO file and playing it through a media player, but how can I view it on my television?

If your TV and computer has a D-sub (15 pin) cable input/output jack, then you can buy the cable and connect it that way. You can also use a dvi digital cable if your TV and computer has the appropriate input/output jacks. Or you can use a S-video cable as well. Some TV's don't work with HDMI or DVI cables when hooked up to a computer. For sound, just hook up a pc audio cable between your computer and the TV.

If the television is one of the new ones with multiple inputs, it probably has a computer monitor input. A standard monitor cable from the laptop to the TV is all you need. If your TV is older, and has only RF and/or composite inputs, you will need additional hardware in the computer. If it comes to that, replace the TV; analog over-the-air broadcasts become history in 2009, and if you are using an antenna you will need to replace it anyway.

connect the laptop thorugh a s-video, for example. Your TV and laptop need a common video connection.

go to radioshack or bestbuy they have a vga to video cable box that will fix that problem. its 99.99. or if your tv has a vga port like your computer moniter, then you can plug it straight into the tv.

Check if your computer has an s-video port. Most modern laptops have them - with that all you need is an s-video cord.

If you have a desktop, you can buy a video card with an s-video port for around 40$.

If you have a laptop, or dont want to buy video card, you can buy a vga to s-video converter, for around 50$.

You can buy a video transmitter that plugs in your USB port or if you have a vga/hdmi/s-video port on your laptop and the TV is newer (LCD or Plasma) you can use a straight cable with the same plug on both ends. Or if you have an older TV you can use S-video to composite adapter (very cheap on ebay).
